H-N of Holly’s Harmony Yoga

H – Hatha Hatha yoga is the original form of yoga that I trained in.  It is the most common form of yoga in the West as it has been adapted and created for Westernised society.  It has a range of poses with their English and Sanskrit names.  A Hatha practice of yoga includes yoga poses (Asanas), breathwork (Pranayama) and meditation (Dhyana). I – Indus Valley Civilisation The first evidence of yoga was found in the Indus Valley in the form of a Yogic Seal.  The Indus Valley Civilisation was about 3000BC.  They have found these yogic seals with yoga…

A-G of Holly’s Harmony Yoga

A-Z of Holly’s Harmony Yoga A – Aerial YogaI instantly fell in love with aerial yoga from my very first class and I have noticed many of my lovely aerial yoga attendees find the same.  It is the stability and support in poses that the silks offer you.  The ability to find stretches that floor based yoga is unable to give.  The comforting cocooning cuddle that the silks give in Savasana is magical and so nurturing.  I initially tried aerial yoga when my feet were causing my lots of pain and I wanted a form of exercise that was low…

?BALANCE?

Tree pose is excellent for balance. ?‍♀️ To prepare, squeeze the core and the glutes. ?‍♂️ Come onto the toes on the right leg. Keep a small micro bend in the supporting leg.? Move the knee out to the side. You may stay here or bring the foot onto the calf or the thigh. Make sure you do not rest the foot on the knee.?‍♀️ Focus the gaze on a still point on the horizon for balance. ?‍♂️ Hands can come to the heart in prayer position or arms can come overhead as if they are tree branches.? Root down…

The Full Moon in Aquarius.

At 03:37BST today it was the Full Moon. So now is the perfect time to perform your Full Moon ritual. The Full Moon is a time of high energy, hence where the term Lunacy comes from. This is a brilliant time to let go of anything in your past which holds you back. Maybe you are doing something you no longer want to do or your life wants to head in a new direction. Work out how you can change these things, what can you let go of? It is also a brilliant time to work with forgiveness, forgiving yourself…

Crystal Grid Ideas For New Moon

On Saturday I created a crystal grid shown in the picture to help us to set our New Moon intentions. For your own you can place your intention on a piece of paper under the centre piece to help you maintain your focus and keep it in place for a few day. For this New Moon crystal grid I used: -Fluorite to help us to be clear about what we really want and to remove heavy emotions, leading to us coming from a place of lack. -Carnelian to focus our attention and to help us to keep moving forwards with our…

New Moon Rituals

Saturday morning at 2:16am it was the New Moon in Cancer. Now is the perfect time for you to perform a New Moon ritual. Don’t know how to do it?Here are a couple of tips to get you started ?  Cleanse your space – I like to use a sage smudge stick or Palo Santo but you can even use an incense stick. Move the smoke around the room in a clockwise direction, ensuring the smoke reaches every corner to cleanse the space of negative energy. Even easier in a roundhouse! Meditate – this is even as simple as placing…

Ayurveda and the Doshas…

Following a workshop I attended last weekend with the wonderful Laura Green Yoga, I have been looking more and more into Ayurveda. The Ayurvedic medical system and way of living has been about for as long as yoga itself, going back over 5,000 years. One starting point is finding out your Dosha. This is decided by your generic makeup as well as personality traits. So part of it is fixed and some of it can be fairly fluid with changes in your lifestyle over time. You may be purely one dosha at this moment in time or a combination of…

Introduction to the Chakras – Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is located above the crown of the head. In Sanskrit it is known as Sahasrara. If you have a blockage in the energy pathways linked to the crown chakra you may be disconnected from your spirit. It is believed you will reach ecstasy and bliss if this chakra is clear as it means all of your energies are flowing. To work with this Chakra you can use some of the below suggestions: *Mantra: ‘I am divine’ *Essential oil: Lavender *Crystal: Amethyst, Quartz, Selenite *Colour: Violet *Chant: ‘Ang’ *Mudra: Hands in front of the stomach. Little fingers pointing…

Introduction to the Chakras – Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra is located between the brows. It is related to intuition. If it is out of balance you may struggle with brain fogginess, migraines, forgetfullness, poor memory. When it is in balance you may be able to visualise and imagine things more clearly. In Sanskrit it is known as Ajna. To work with this Third Eye Chakra, you can work with one or a couple of these techniques: *The colour to imagine between the brows is Indigo shining brightly. *Repeat to yourself ‘I see clearly, I see the path ahead, I am calm.’ *Crystals to work with…
